Reston Travel Basketball
Reston Travel Basketball teams have participated in the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League (FCYBL) for more than 30 years. Teams in this league are exposed to a more competitive level of play relative to RYBL’s House program. Numerous Reston Travel Basketball players have gone to play for area high school varsity teams, college teams, and professionally, including the NBA.
FCYBL offers a competitive winter league that includes many participating youth basketball organizations from across Northern Virginia. As an organization, FCYBL establishes league policies, schedules all games, and provides referees. For more information on FCYBL, please visit www.fcybl.org.
Players that wish to try-out for an Reston Travel Basketball team MUST register online (at www.restonyouthbasketball.com) prior to attending any try-outs. The registration requirement applies to both new and returning players. Parents/Players do not pay the registration fee until they are offered and accept an invitation to play on an Reston Travel Basketball Team. Players not selected for Select/Travel are automatically enrolled to play in the RYBL House League.
Reston Travel Basketball players registration fee is . Reston Travel Basketball players must also pay a uniform fee up to $115 for new uniforms. Reston Travel Basketball offers scholarships for families that qualify.
AGE GROUPS: Reston Travel Basketball will field travel teams for boys and girls in the 5th grade, 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade age groups. In addition, all Reston Travel Basketball players must reside in Fairfax County within the zip codes of 20170, 20171, 20190, 20191, 20194, and 22182 with two zip code exceptions allowed per team.
REGISTRATION: Will Open Soon
TRYOUTS: ALL players MUST register for tryouts (New and Returning) prior to participating. Children who are interested in being considered for a Travel team must attend the appropriate tryouts for their grade. We recommend all players attend as many scheduled tryouts as possible for the best chance at making a spot on a team. Tryouts will begin by the first week of October and be held for three sessions. Teams will be selected no later than mid-October. Detailed Travel try-out schedules will be published in mid-late September.
Players need to check-in at each tryout they attend, bring a full water bottle, wear sneakers, and wear a white t-shirt with their 1st initial and last name in sharpie on the back.
SELECTIONS: Players will be selected for teams based on their performance at tryouts, skills, coach-ability, attitude and commitment.
PLAYER OBLIGATIONS: If selected, the player will be required to: (1) provide proof of grade and residence by submitting a FCPS SIS printout OR a copy of the most recent report card, a letter from your childs' current school signed by an official, and a copy of a recent utility bill; and (2) submit a medical release and an emergency contact information form.
Participation in the Travel program requires extra commitment and dedication. After tryouts, teams begin practicing in October twice a week for 90 minutes each and play a 12 to 14 game regular season schedule on weeknights and weekends at gyms throughout the County. Most teams play in the County post-season tournament in March.
